After setting up on the river this morning and not having any luck on honkers we hit a field tonight to see if our luck would change. As luck would have it it did. 2 guys 4 shots 4 birds. Love it when they are back winging in the spread. Nice sunset as we were picking up decoys.
I do my best typically right before or right after sunset with crankbaits. If I'm fishing mid day I look for either a deep hole, or brush piles to provide some shade.

Plan to Leave the ramp at sunrise, pick up well before sunset. LST is not a concern lol Charging your phone before any hunt should be a priority. I dont leave the ramp without a full charge (and/or a way to charge) when hunting anywhere, let alone a place with any size that im mostly unfamiliar with. It sure can be your lifeline. Cut 'Em!
Sunday, I saw 7 bunches of Teal in the 45 minutes after sunset == bunches of 3 to 11 ... so they are arriving. Another caution::some of these areas have some pretty deep pools that are a result of taking dirt to build the federal flood levees.

It just has to be taken down and in the parking lot an hour after sunset and can't be setup until midnight the night before use. I'm kinda a nube though. Hopefully some of the more seasoned fowlers will say the same.
All this was against a great sunset. Unfortunately, I was viewing this great sight from a cement parking lot in Ankeny. I then drove to our farm 10 miles north and saw zero waterfowl the whole way. Good day for gull viewing though. Maybe the DNR should add these birds to the Saylorville count just to make it look better.
