But, here is what I see as an advantage and what I too am doing in my cam choice with my 455CI 9 to 1 compression engine, 112 LSA, 284/288 duration. Got a solid cam that will give me a very modest .455" net lift at the intake valve. Not very big by Chevy standards or anyone else's that you read about, right?.
LSA's of 110 to 114 are usually best for engines that will see street dutyas well as the occasional foray at the track. A wider lsa improves idle quality by creating more intake manifold vacuum and allowing less reversion. Intake Centerline: refers to the positon at which the cam is installed relative to the crankshaft.
Also a narrow LSA makes more power, but at a narrower RPM range , where as the same grind with a wider LSA (higher number) makes power across a wider rpm range. My ( 389) 400 runs a CRANE cam with .454 in .480 ex lift 112 LSA (216in 228ex @.050). Its a 9.3 to one engine. It pulls hard right off idle to above 5500 rpm (forged rods of course)
Solid roller cam from Bullet (from their recommendation based on what I was looking for) - 110 LSA, 251/257 degrees at 0.050, 0.620 net valve lift WITH 1.5:1 rockers.
Calculated dish volume 25-28cc depending on gasket thickness, or volume Calculated compression ratio with 65cc chambers 10.1-10.3 QUESTION did i miss anything? What is the expected impact of the ALUMINUM/65 CC chambers on CR, static and dynamic. Thanks in advance Note plan B would be roller cam broader LSA if Head Change is suboptimal.
I previously had a solid roller in mine that was 236/242 @ 0.050 on a 110 LSA and made .600 lift at the valves with 1.65's, and it wasn't all that nasty. Being a roller, it didn't have as much overlap - plus it was in a 461 so the extra inches tended to tame it down some.
Pontiac "068" cam LSA - 116 Intake Centerline - 113 Valve Overlap - 63 Intake Opens - 31 BTDC Intake Closes - 77 ABDC Exhaust Opens - 90 BBDC Exhaust Closes - 32 ATDC Intake Duration - 288 Exhaust Duration - 302 Valve lift - .406" Here is a further explanation on cam spec by the guy who specs/grinds them: "Re: Cam Duration: Advertised vs. .050
Wider LSA cams (114-116) will provide a broader power range but not have the lower RPM punch of the tighter LSA. The wider LSA cams typically bleed off some of the compression at the lower RPM's and is why they were selected when using higher compression engines. You will pick up the lost compression as the RPM's increase.
