Knife travel rules that are getting stricter in practice — even when laws didn’t change
Hey, I have surfed a bit and I know that 'stricter' is preferred but is it all right to use 'more strict'?
Hi I heard "more strict" the other day and it sounded a little odd. The rule goes that if you have a single syllable adjective, then add "er". While laws are positive "is" statements (e.g. the fine for reversing on a highway is €500); law tells us what we "should" do. Thus, each legal system can be hypothesised to have a 'basic norm' (German: Grundnorm) instructing us to obey.
