As in your case, the saw died almost immediately. I think it did this twice. I put it back on full choke, pulled once, then back to half choke, pulled and it started & ran fine. The 261 and 550 are pretty much the same with Stihl claiming .25hp more, who knows if is true lol. I will go for a few more tank of fuel on the 462 and see how it does compare to my 576xp.
Correction: Stihl does not “recommend” a 32 inch bar on that saw, they specify that as the “maximum recommended” bar. I’d run a 24” bar on that saw, if it were mine. It will balance fairly well, and won’t struggle when you bury the nose in hardwood.
The Stihl 4-mix and shindiawa hybrid were co developed that’s why they came out about same time and Stihl/shindiawa both have shared design patents. They came up with this design to make a lighter 4 stroke that could run at any angle.

Hi all, Recently picked up a Stihl 064. Fairly tidy, but the top end is done. Definitely needs a piston and quite possibly a cylinder too. I'm thinking to put an 066 top end on it. When did the 064 go out of production as mine must be a very late one. I thought the 0xx series were discontinued...
The Stihl sits lowest in my ranking so far based off of what you get for the money. Between the Echo and the Husky, you get more bar and battery for $50 more but is this because it is inferior to the Husky?
