Get it on the page. The morning pages are the primary tool of creative recovery. As blocked artists, we tend to criticize ourselves mercilessly. Even if we look like functioning artists to the world, we feel we never do enough and what we do isn’t right.
The results are representative of a population of artists and culture bearers who have a dedicated professionalized practice. This survey was conducted using methods that allow us to estimate the characteristics of this group of artists across the U.S. adult population.
From 2015 to 2024, the number of artists in the United States increased by 14 percent, outpacing the total U.S. labor force, which grew by 7 percent. In 2024, 72 percent of artists were employed full time, compared to 80 percent of the total labor force.
