Kilburn is an area in North West London, in the London Boroughs of Camden, Brent and the City of Westminster. Kilburn High Road railway station lies 3.5 miles (5.6 km) north-west of Charing Cross. Kilburn developed from a linear hamlet that grew up on ancient Watling Street (the modern A5 Road).
Sitting in what could perhaps be described as an unremarkable position on the London map, Kilburn isn't the most obvious place for a migrant community to grow. It's not next to an airport, major river or even one of London's main train stations, but it once served as the drop-off point for Irish people moving to the city.
