I recently started getting notifications from my one drive saying that I am out of space, despite having 5TB of storage and I know that my files should only total ~150GB. I did some digging and came across the storage metrics under settings, which says that almost 97% of the current storage is being taken up by the Preservation hold library. Users are unable to delete items from the Preservation Hold library as it's a protected location, designed to retain content for compliance reasons. Only a Compliance Administrator can release the retention policy to allow deletion, and it's likely the retention policy is there to satisfy your organisations records keeping requirements.
