Is the receiver plugged into a port directly on the PC, or is it on a secondary port that connects through a keyboard, USB hub, etc? Were the controller and receiver purchased together in the same package, or were they bought individually? Are either of them 3rd party (non-Microsoft) products?
The printer is connected to a USB port on a Windows 7 computer with a Homegroup setup, documents, Photos and Printer sharing turned on. There are two other computers; a Windows 7 and a Windows 8.1, both were setup with the same Homegroup on this wireless network. All three computers have the same Workgroup name but different computer names.
