284 New Regulations Are Set To Impact Local Small Businesses

The Victoria Advocate: Texas food truck licensing regulations to change, bringing local impact

The 284 seemed like the best cartridge for the short action I'm doing. The magazine is modified and it will feed and handle 2.950 no problem, I intend to use 131 Hammers-140gr accubonds hopefully over 3000fps.

The 284 was a great round that never caught on. Fyi a lot of the f class guys are switching from 6.5 284 to the straight 284 now with the new high bc 7 bullets.

With the Norma .284 brass through bullets.com and the awesome new bullets from Sierra, Hornady, and Berger, this relatively mild 7mm cartridge really comes to life with today's components.

Ive decided to start gathering parts for a 284 win build, even found some Lapua brass to start off the build! This will be on a long action. My question is on reamer specs. Is there a reamer spec already out there that is worth looking at or using? Initially I planned on sending a dummy round...

The 6.5 -284 is a great cartridge . I use Lapua brass and also neck down too a recently built 25-284 using the same sizindie by changing bushings . Make sure you get either a 1-7 , 1-7.5 or minimum of a 1-8 twist . It take a standard bolt face will work in a short action but is best suited for a medium action . A long action will work also , especially if you decide too throat it long and ...

But the 6.5-284 fits and shoots better for me personally than my 7 mag, I have two great loads worked up for the 6.5. The first is the 143gr Norma Bond Strkes, the 2nd is the Barnes 127gr LRX. Both of these bullets are very accurate but the biggest thing is the gun just fits me better and I can shoot it more accurately.

The 284 win has a slightly short neck compared to an '06 to begin with and it's even shorter when necking up 284 win brass. My peterson brass usually measures 2.150-2.155 after necking up when the factory length is 2.160 and that's .010 short of saami max.

The .284 Winchester and the Shehane variation have been used for a substantial period of time in F-Class competitions. Very popular and very accurate when you and your gunsmith perform.

I have a Rem 700 long action .284, 21", 1-9" twist barrel, 150gr ELD's & 160 gr Nosler Accubonds, WW Super brass, I have various powders. Kinda interested in Staball 6.5 loads, but interested in others using lighter bullets. Any suggestions?

.284 Winchester, newer loads for 150 gr Eld x or M, 160 gr Nosler

My initial thought was a 284 Winchester for a crossover Target / hunting with a WTO switchlug to play with. Now it seems that lapua is not making 284 win brass any longer. But ADG is doing 7 SAUM. I have new Winchester branded 284 brass about 400 cases worth. So should I stick with the 284 or should I do the 7 SAUM. I still need dies and a barrel.

The 284 Winchester is for all practical purposes the ballistic equal to the 280 Remington. The main difference is that it has the same rim diameter as the 280 and the body diameter of the belted magnums and can be used in a short action. ( It has a rebated rim). The 280 needs the long action. and brass is easier to find or make from 3006 or 270.

The .284 case is a more efficient design than the .30-06 and has the same case capacity. I shoot a straight .284 with the Norma match chamber for 175-180gr bullets and I'm right on the heels of .280 Ackley performance.

Ok I want to hear what your thoughts are on the pro's and cons either cartridge, I have 2 custom 6.5-284 build and one 6.5 PRC, have hand loaded more for the 6.5-284, I am a novice handloader at best but really enjoy the 6.5-284 as it has more factory load options and Lapua Brass as an example...

I sold my 25/284 as it really just matched a 25/06 and brass is so much easier to get for a 25/06. I also prefer a 257 Roberts over the 25 Souper. In a modern rifle I would think you want a short action to take advantage of the 25 Saw. My favorite 25 cartridge is the 257 Roberts even though it gives up 100-150 fps to the 25/284 or 25/06.
