If you have "found out that between is not used after compare ", you have answered your own question. You can compare many things, so you can compare the shifts in style. Perhaps you are wondering whether you can make a comparison between more than two things. You can, but I would personally prefer to use of, i.e. a comparison of the deliberate shifts in style etc.
