If it’s unsafe to exit, circle around the roundabout and try again. As you leave, join traffic flow at a safe speed, and keep an eye on road signs and anyone on foot or bike.
What is a roundabout? A modern roundabout is a circular intersection where drivers travel counterclockwise around a center island. There are not traffic signals or stop signs in a modern roundabout.
In a roundabout, pedestrians walk on sidewalks around the perimeter of the circular roadway. If they need to cross the roadway, they cross only one direction of traffic at a time. In addition, crossing distances are relatively short, and vehicle speeds tend to be low.
Vehicles enter and exit through connecting roads without the need for traffic signals, yielding to the traffic already circulating within the roundabout. Unlike traditional intersections, roundabouts prioritize continuous flow, reducing delays and improving overall traffic efficiency.
