Downtown Libertyville's History Downtown Libertyville was established in 1827 and incorporated in 1882. The Village of Libertyville is located about 30 miles north of Chicago. Originally called Independence Grove, this beautiful community is home to more than 20,000 residents who appreciate their town’s rich history and continuing progress.
Libertyville also saw its share of commercial and residential development during this decade, although at a less impressive rate than that seen in the first 20 years of the century. From 1920 to 1930, the population of the village increased from 2,126 residents to 2,791.
