In honor of the nationwide celebration of local news, reporters from the Bonner County Daily Bee and the Bonners Ferry Herald shared why they believe local news is important in today’s digital world.
The village of Bonners Ferry was formally established in 1893, along the south bank of the Kootenai River. Scattered along the valley and benchland were a few ranches and homesteads.
Located six miles from downtown Bonners Ferry, the park is a sanctuary for various wildlife, including moose, bears, elk, beavers, and a host of avian visitors. Come fall, the refuge peaks with over 40,000 birds (the majority of them Mallards) migrating through the park.
Bonners Ferry grew out of a river crossing for prospectors heading to gold discoveries in Canada in the 1860’s. It is the county seat of Boundary County, with a population of about 2,500 of Idaho’s friendliest people.
