I've never had locs before but I'm on my second big chop/natural hair journey. I'm thinking of getting locs once my hair has grown past the awkward stage. Honestly starting at the awkward stage was great for me. It’s cute how the lil locs frame your face lol.
I've never started locs but I've retwisted them for friends. I do box braids, senegalese twists, etc. I can't really speak for starting locs, but I like brick/arched pattern because they overlap in the spaces and hide scalp and spaces. But I understand why some people do more "straight" parts because they want a mored defined parting.
But let’s get back to the subject at hand. Why do some Black people have a problem with Locs whether they’re real or fake? some people think they look too masculine for women. look sloppy and unkempt and people think dreads smell/you cant wash them and whoever has them is automatically considered a pothead, etc.

- Leave.your.hair.alone. locs really benefit from a minimalist maintenance routine even though the maintenance can take longer and be more annoying. honestly, if you just wash, moisturize, and separate your locs, that's more than enough. But people who prefer the super neat look will have maintenance/twisting routines that are more involved
The strands aren’t coarse but they aren’t fine either. I started and maintained both sets myself. Locs pretty much retain all of your shed hair as they mature so yours should even out. Just try to fight the urge to pull at the little balls of hair that form at the end of your locs when they start to frizz up. Good luck on your journey!
