Sussex (/ˈsʌsɪks/; ⓘ from the Old English Sūþseaxe; lit. ' South Saxons '; 'Sussex') is an area of South East England that was historically a kingdom and, later, a county. The current ceremonial counties of East Sussex and West Sussex cover approximately the same area.
