OSB or plywood may meet code in some situations, but you'd have to look at fire codes and assembly types to know for sure. Even for a detached shop where other structures aren't at risk, drywall can lower the chance that a small fire becomes a total loss.
I need to butt-joint two pieces of plywood with glue and screws. Will plywood tolerate having a screw driven into its edge (even with a pilot hole), or will the plywood split? What about butt-jointing normal wood, with the screw driven into end grain? How well will that hold up?
I'm building a cabinet and this one section requires me to screw directly into a 1/2" plywood joint. I know that I'm mostly safe pre-drilling a hole that's hopefully straight but was curious what you guys recommend in this scenario to connect a clean 1/2" joint. This seam runs about 7 feet in...
After the bending pressure to failure, there was a slight hump in the surface of the plywood. So my unscientific opinion is I wouldn't hesitate to screw into the edge of 3/4 inch baltic birch plywood with coarse thread self-tapping screws. I will say that if this were a project I cared about, I'd cut dados and use the screws for increased strength.
How to screw into the edge of plywood? - LumberJocks Woodworking Forum
Don't just use glue for plywood miter joints. Your last choice is best of those listed because the biscuits. Fine Woodworking or some other wood magazine last month had an article about joining plywood miters with splines and/or with aluminum angles attached to wood that fit into mortises on each piece of plywood. Much more work to build it, but it wont suck the way a plywood miter would with ...
Hi All, I recently built a very nice outfeed table to aid myself when cutting large pieces, specifically ripping full 4×8 sheets of MDF and plywood. I am wondering if I'm missing something though - my friends all make it sound so damn simple, but I'm having trouble still with ripping full...
I'm wondering what everyone uses for plywood inside the carcass that typically no one would ever see (especially on the lower cabinets). I'll probably stick with cherry veneered ply inside the uppers - but wondering if I should use shop-grade birch inside the lowers, or perhaps white laminated plywood, or just spend the extra $$$ and use cherry ...
I have built a floating plywood floor over my concrete. 2×4 sleepers flat on 16" centers and 1 1/2" styrofoam insulation between them and then 1" T&G ply screwed to them. I passed on the plastic vapor barrier as I am in a very dry climate. I think it would depend on your area of the country and whether a vapor barrier is required in construction if that would be necessary. Concrete is a big ...
I like the natural plywood cover too, but, and even with the walls covered, painting them white really helped brighten the shop, both for appearance and for viability.
I've used a dado/rabbit type joint on numerous plywood drawer boxes with good results. I used a router table in the past but find the table saw to be much faster.
Tornado activity: Lowes-area historical tornado activity is above Kentucky state average. It is 108% greater than the overall U.S. average. On 1964-03-04, a category F4 (max. wind speeds 207-260 mph) tornado 22.1 miles away from the Lowes place center killed 3 people and injured 24 people and caused between $50,000 and $500,000 in damages.
I highly recommend Lowes and I had the best experience ever. One of your employees, Bronsen Smith was so helpful, kind and went above and beyond in customer service. Right before closing, I needed to pick out seeds and pottery for planting and he helped me find perfect supplies to make a garden for my friends for a special gift.
So, contrary to earlier widespread reports, Lowes is in fact abandoning Kobalt hand tools for Craftsman. Now, I have boxes full of generations of REAL Craftsman tools, but I stopped even looking at them after Stanley Black & Decker bought the brand because they further cheapened their design...
I'll do the usual, check review sites, Consumer Reports etc. But I wanted to know if anyone has had a good experience locally shopping for a new washer and dryer. I would normally avoid Best Buy but our repair guy recommended them. There is one close to us in Brier Creek. Home Depot / Lowes are on Capital Blvd. We had a power surge that fried our existing washer/dryer. Service tech said no ...
