After the bending pressure to failure, there was a slight hump in the surface of the plywood. So my unscientific opinion is I wouldn't hesitate to screw into the edge of 3/4 inch baltic birch plywood with coarse thread self-tapping screws. I will say that if this were a project I cared about, I'd cut dados and use the screws for increased strength.

If MDF or plywood frames can be made to last 3 years, I'll be satisfied with the cost/effort ratio. You'll hear stories about old beekeepers who had used the same frames (even the same comb) for decades, without sterilising them, but many modern beekeepers either renew or sanitise their frames at least every 2-3 years.
A 3/4 inch sheet of birch plywood, typically a 4x8 sheet, weighs around 65 pounds unfortunately so does luan ply so the weight will not help .
Yes, you can use plywood for drawers, but I wouldn't use 1/4" dado/half blind dovetails on the front. I use 1/2" Baltic Birch for the sides, back and front, cutting full 1/2" through dovetails and attaching a false front (which is easier to align to the drawer opening than adjusting drawer glides).
